The City of Windsor is moving toward a One Stop Shopping Model in an effort to increase customer service and efficiency.

Mayor Eddie Francis and Chief Administrative Officer Helga Reidel announced a restructuring this morning that will streamline development approvals and building permits under the direction of the newly named Planning and Development Department.

City Planner Thom Hunt will take on the added title and responsibility of City Planner/Executive Director of Building and Planning Services.

“We’ve been reviewing organizational opportunities that could enhance the customer’s experience while also improving our overall efficiency for more than a year now”, said Mayor Eddie Francis.  “This merger is a great first step”.

This is one of 80 business process improvements that were identified in an extensive stakeholder and public consultation process, both inside and outside the corporation.

There will also be a new Chief Building Official (CBO) starting in October.  Bill Jean, the current Deputy Building Official, will replace LeeAnne Doyle who is retiring.  Recruitment for a new Assistant / Developmental CBO will begin soon to ensure strong succession planning is in place.
