Cheung's Trading Company announces 'Food Ventures' program to attract and help new vendors for the 2014 Downtown Windsor Farmers Market

Are you always getting compliments on your cooking and has long to share your recipes with others? Do you have an idea for the Windsor Farmers' Market but isn't quite ready to make the financial commitment? Do you watch cooking shows on TV and say to yourself "I can do a better job than that!!" Can you cook like Gordon Ramsey but yet has the business vision of a Steve Jobs to know what customers want?

If your answer is yes to any of these questions then keep reading.

The Downtown Windsor Farmers' Market recently announced that they have signed a 3 year lease with Charles Clark Square and this is coming after their most successful season ever. Cheung's Trading Company was proud to be a vendor there and now we've started planning for 2014 with an exciting offer open to anyone!

Since 1985 Cheung's Trading Company has been keeping the people of Windsor-Essex healthy using Chinese herbs and we want to give back to the community by launching our new health initiative call Food Ventures to help aspiring Foodpreneurs get their culinary dreams off the ground and turn this area into a hotspot for culinary tourism.

Food Ventures is about finding, fostering, financing, collaborating and supporting food entrepreneurs in Windsor Essex who wants promote our commitment to food sustainability, healthy and holistic living and local foods to help transform our food system for the better. We want to select up to 10 individuals to get things started by paying for their ENTIRE season's vendor fee for the 2014 Downtown Farmers' Market season plus chip in with a wide range of additional resources and incentives to help you come up with creative and nutritious food items to sell with the hope of eventually selling it at our store. Food Ventures is about finding undiscovered talents who can be the next Jamie Oliver or Nigella Lawson and helping to put Windsor on the map for great food.

Does this sound appealing to you? To be consider being a member of next year's first group of Food Venturers email us a short bio (500 words or less) to with the subject heading 'Food Ventures 2014'.

The bio must answer the following questions:

  • Tell us a bit about yourself and what previous cooking experience you have?
  • What kind of food items would you be making for the farmers' market?
  • Why do you think this item would do well?

Please submit bio either in the body of the email or in a Word doc. One entry per person. No phone calls please but email questions are welcome. Only those who make the short list will be contacted. To qualify you must be a legal resident of Canada and is over the age of 19. Entries must be receive no later than Sunday, January 26, 2014.
