Windsor-Essex County, Ontario - Friday, October 4th, 2013 - With funding from the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, Workforce WindsorEssex is excited to partner with community organizations and local employers to coordinate activities for the first Manufacturing Day in Windsor-Essex on Friday, October 4th 2013.  The day will provide opportunities for local manufacturers to engage with youth and promote local employment opportunities in the sector.

Transportation generously provided by Collins Barrows will allow over 240 students from local schools to tour manufacturing facilities in Windsor-Essex. A.V Gauge & Fixture Inc., Cavalier Tool & Manufacturing Ltd., Omega Tool Corp, Platinum Tool Technologies, Radix Inc., and Reko International are looking forward to opening their doors to students, guidance counsellors and teachers, in hopes that it will give them a deeper understanding of the jobs, environment and workplace expectations of our local manufacturing sector.

Manufacturing Day has been held in the United States for the past few years. The event is co-produced by the Fabricator & Manufacturers Association International®,  the National Association of Manufacturers, and the Manufacturing Extension Partnership.  In its first year, more than 240 events were held in manufacturing facilities in 37 states and more than 7,000 people participated. There are over 800 events planned for Manufacturing Day 2013.

Local manufacturing employers have been responsive to the project.

"Manufacturing Day is a great opportunity for companies to open their doors to the students and public to bring awareness to the great careers and opportunities that exist in manufacturing in Windsor and Essex County.  All of the companies that are not participating in our first Manufacturing Day celebration in Windsor & Essex County should consider being part of this once a year great opportunity to recruit future employees next year." - Dan Moynahan, President Platinum Tool Technologies

"Radix's role is to introduce the community to the high tech side of manufacturing, and the remarkable innovations that are possible."-Shelley Fellows, Radix Inc.

Workforce WindsorEssex would like to acknowledge all of the employer and community partners for their spirit of collaboration in this initiative.
