The City of Windsor's planning department wants to improve its customer service.

In particular, a review by the department will concentrate on improving the process of issuing building permits and approvals for development projects.

For years, developers have complained of too much red tape at City Hall when applying for building permits.

City planner, Thom Hunt, says the public, staff, various committees and members of the development community will be contacted in the coming weeks for their opinions through the use of surveys and interviews:

"The purpose of the project is to identify process changes or improvements we can make for customer service efforts," Hunt said. "Sometimes because we're so immersed in our processes we're not able to identify some of the solutions to the challenges that we hear."

Coun. Hilary Payne says the review is a good step forward. He says it will make the city more business friendly:

"We have all kinds of regulations and policies to enforce," he said "In some cases, it takes a long time for a development to be approved because there's so many steps to go through."

Hunt says anyone interested in participating in the review process, especially members of the development community, should call 311 for details.

The review project is expected to be complete by spring of next year.
