Windsor-Essex County, Ontario, Wednesday, May 22, 2013 - Premier, Kathleen Wynne joined Teresa Piruzza, MPP Windsor West and Minister of Children and Youth Services along with representatives from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation and partners WE Prosper Youth Attraction & Retention Task Force at the Windsor Accelerator today.
Premier Wynne announced an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant in support of the WE Explore Project in the Windsor-Essex region. The purpose of the WE Explore Project is to promote and support existing organizations serving young people and improve communication mechanisms for them to effectively engage within their communities in collaboration with policy makers, academia and local industry.
The Ontario Trillium grant will provide funding for up to 18 months to employ a full-time WE Explore Project Coordinator who will be aligned with the mandates of the lead organization the Economic Development Corp., and the WE Prosper Youth Attraction & Retention Task Force. There are numerous other organizations that will contribute to the WE Explore Project as members of the Youth Attraction Retention Task Force. (These are listed on the below backgrounder)

What is WE PROSPER Windsor-Essex Regional Prosperity Council?
It is a volunteer federation of local organizations that are actively collaborating with one another on a daily basis to promote regional prosperity. They do so by identifying the regional initiatives shared by other WE Prosper members and by strategically aligning resources to help them achieve their goals more efficiently and strategically. In addition to the Youth Attraction & Retention Task Force there are Task Forces for Small Business & Entrepreneurship, Available Skilled Trades, Cross-Border & Logistics and Arts & Culture
Project Name- The WE Explore Pilot Project
A collaborative Agreement between the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation (Lead organization) and the WE Prosper Youth Attraction and retention Task Force (YARTF);
Goal of the Project
To promote and support existing organizations serving young people and improve communication mechanism for them to effectively engage within their communities in collaboration with policy makers, academia and local industry;
Timing of Project
The project is for 18 months will house a full-time WE Explore Project Coordinator- the Project and Coordinator position are in alignment with the mandates of both WEEDC and the WE Prosper Youth Attraction & Retention Task Force; The WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation will host the Project Coordinator at its offices over the next 18 months.

Why is WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) the lead organization?
WEDC is the Region’s lead economic development agency.
