The first batch of hand sanitizer produced at Hiram Walker and Sons Distillery made its way into the community over the weekend.

Delivered by local union leaders, a load of 20-litre buckets full of hand sanitizers adorning the J.P Wiser label went to the Village of Aspen Lake nursing home on Saturday morning.

The presidents of Unifor locals 444, 200, 2458, 240, 2027, 195, 1959, and 194 delivered the hand sanitizer to “hospitals, elderly care homes and health facilities” in Windsor, according to a tweet from Unifor Local 444 on Saturday.

Corby Spirit and Wine, the company that makes the J.P. Wiser brand and manages the waterfront distillery, announced on Thursday it would produce hand sanitizer at the Walkerville distillery where 180,000 litres of alcohol are typically distilled each day.
The hand sanitizer will be donated “where needed in Windsor,” as well as to the TTC in Toronto, the company said in a news release Thursday.
