STATEMENT FROM WINDSORESSEX ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT REGARDING COVID-19

Friday, March 13, 2020

COVID-19 (coronavirus) has disrupted people’s life and the global economy. Our local economy is not immune from these economic shocks. Windsor-Essex boasts an industry profile of more than 1000 manufacturers, $3.3 billion of manufacturing goods produced in annual GDP – 28% of the region’s total GDP production, 90-plus auto and parts manufacturers and an excess of 250 machine, tool, die and mold manufacturers, employing more than 18,000 workers which are all key components of the integrated global value chain. Moreover, we have the greatest number of cross-border commuters in Canada. Please be aware that WE EDC is monitoring the situation closely and we are assessing the impact to our economy and we are in the process of compiling actions to help businesses mitigate the current situation.

In the interim, our Corporation is attempting to do its part to safeguard the public and its employees from the proliferation and subsequent risk of the COVID-19 virus. To this end, the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation (WE EDC), has initiated a corporate policy to temporarily prohibit any unnecessary travel by our staff members to meetings outside of the organization. Additionally, WE EDC has initiated corporate policy to limit any unnecessary incoming meetings from external delegations, clients, or prospective clients. The Corporation is attempting to do its part to safeguard the public and its employees from the proliferation and subsequent risk of the COVID-19 virus.

WE EDC will continue to operate and provide service to current and potential businesses through email, phone, and tele-conference.
