Media Advisory: Whose "Bright Tech Idea" Will Win up to $10,000 in the Pitch Challenge?

WHAT:

On Friday, November 2, 2018, the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation and WE-tech Alliance are partnering to host the Region's first-ever Tech Mobility Day.  This day will be dedicated to exploring the world of mobility by hearing and seeing from mobility innovators, industry experts and companies who are transforming the way we move people and goods. 

EXCITING HIGHLIGHTS:

A PITCH CHALLENGE: Five regional tech mobility startups will have the chance to pitch in front of a group of seasoned investors and judges to compete for up to $10,000 in cash prizes by WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation as well as other valuable prizes. 

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS - Two keynote speakers will discuss how each of their companies is making an important mark around the world in advancing mobility.

MOBILITY OPEN HOUSE - Mobility Open House: Several companies have agreed to demonstrate some of their technologies/products in the mobility space.  These companies include: Linamar; OPTIS/ANSYS; John Deere; Michelin Canada; and others.

TECH MOBILITY DAY - BACKGROUND INFORMATION

 

The following five companies are vying for the inaugural pitch event:

BORDERAPP – Helps drivers beat the border bottleneck and choose the fastest border crossing. Using electronic tolling, the app will accept payment at any border crossing in US, Canada and Mexico.

Optimotive Technologies - Creates systems to aid autonomous vehicles in harsh environment.

AccessLocator - Helps people with disabilities explore unfamiliar places by sharing accessibility information.

Joyride - Offers turnkey smart mobility management for dockless bike share and scooter share operators.

Able Innovations - Provides a novel approach to handling patients that will eliminate the pitfalls of current transfer methods, which include invasive handling, long transfer times, and serious injuries to both workers and patients. 

 

SPEAKER Bios

Salvador Saraga, Michelin North America - Salvador Saraga manages the Canadian sales of Michelin Services & Solutions as part of the Groupe Michelin global business unit.  A graduate of Concordia University, Mr. Saraga started his career in the steel industry but has spent the last 27 years with Groupe Michelin in various departments including the North American Marketing team and the Motorsports group across the United States, Canada and Brazil.  Mr. Saraga currently lives in Montreal with his wife and 14-year old son.

 

Nico Probst, Manager of Midwest Strategic Development, LIME - Nico Probst currently serves as the Manager of Midwest Strategic Development at Lime, the nation’s first shared mobility solution provider. Prior to Nico’s role at Lime, he served as the Deputy Campaign Manager at Biss for Illinois where he oversaw the day-to-day operations of the campaign. He also previously served as the Chicago Government Relations Director with ACS CAN, the non-profit, nonpartisan advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society which supports evidence-based policy and legislative solutions designed to eliminate cancer as a major health problem.  Nico has extensive experience in national, state and local politics running and working on a multitude of electoral campaigns. He also previously worked at the advocacy organization that supported President Obama’s legislative agenda, Organizing for Action and on President Obama’s re-election campaign in 2012 based out of the headquarters in Chicago.  A native of South Bend, Indiana, Nico graduated from Loyola University Chicago in 2011 with a B.A. in Political Science.
