FTZ Background

On July 31, 2017, the Windsor-Essex region was designated as a Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ Point) by the federal government. Read the media release.

What is a FTZ Point?

A FTZ Point is a strategic location for international trade, where an organization with a mandate to promote local trade and foreign direct investment is uniquely supported by a single-point of access to information on relevant government policies and programs. This information is provided through a designated FTZ Task Force coordinated by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario and comprised of representatives from the following federal departments/agencies: Canada Border Services Agency, Canada Revenue Agency, Transport Canada Innovation, Science and Economic Development, Global Affairs Canada and Export Canada.

How will it impact your business?

The FTZ Point will serve as an additional tool for the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation to assist our local companies, especially small- and medium-sized enterprises, to:

  • import/export
  • enter new foreign markets & global value chains
  • attract new companies to invest in the region.
