Hungry shoppers will be able to grab a bite to eat at Devonshire Mall’s new food court next summer.
The food court redevelopment is located in the former Target space. Hoarding, or fencing, around the construction zone went up Tuesday night.
The hoarding depicts a rendering of the new food court and a TV screen showing photos of the mall during previous developments. Peek holes, looking into the construction zone, will give shoppers a behind-the-scenes glimpse of construction.
When finished, the new food court will house 15 retailers, rather than the current 12. It will also have a family washroom and new entrance — bumping the mall’s number of entrances from four to five.
The four other entrances are also being revamped, said Karen Niforos, the mall’s marketing director.
The food court redevelopment is part of a $70-million renovation at Devonshire Mall. The first phase of the renovation — a Metro grocery store — will open Aug. 24.
The renovation also includes new floors, ceilings, lighting and entrances around the mall. New solar panels constructed on the roof will offset electrical costs.
The mall is also adding a solar panel electric car charging station, with a six-car capacity.
Inside the building, clerestory windows will be constructed between the wall and ceilings from Sears to Purdys. That construction is already underway, Niforos said — but not when shoppers are around.
“They’re working on the ceilings as we speak. Every night, there’s work done,” she said.
Construction is expected to be complete in 2019.
