Production of Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid starts in Windsor

The first Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid rolled off the line Thursday, Dec. 1 at the 88-year-old Windsor Assembly Plant.
The 2017 Pacifica is touted as the auto-industry's first electric minivan, by Fiat Chrysler North America in a news release. The hybrid minivan has a 16-kWh lithium-ion battery that delivers an estimated 30 miles of zero-emissions electric power. In city driving, that hybrid powertrain is expected to deliver 80 miles per gallon equivalent, based on EPA standards.
It is the first electric vehicle built on the Windsor assembly line, according to the release.
"Minivan drivers travel an average of around 30 miles each day, meaning that most Pacifica Hybrid owners will be able to complete their daily activities solely on electric power," Tim Kuniskis, head of passenger car brands, said in the release. "For those longer weekend trips, the 33-mile all-electric range combined with a full tank of fuel will deliver an expected total range of 566 miles, alleviating the potential of any range anxiety."
The Pacifica Hybrid's battery pack is under the second-row floor and can be fully charged in two-hours by using a 240-volt system. Fiat Chrysler reports it invested $2.6 billion to develop the first hybrid minivan, and an additional $744 million to the Windsor plant for floor space and equipment upgrades.
The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid will start at $34,495 in the U.S., according to the automaker.

"The Windsor team is proud to build the industry's first hybrid minivan, and is confident that it will provide a positive and delightful experience to our future customers.
