Disaster Recovery from Flood

Wednesday, October 5, 2016

The Province of Ontario has activated the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians Program in the communities of the City of Windsor, Town of Tecumseh and the Town of Lakeshore due to the recent flooding. Affected individuals, small businesses, farmers and not-for-profit organizations who have experienced essential property damage or loss as a result of this disaster may be eligible to receive help with expenses. More information and detailed program guidelines are available at ontario.ca/disasterassistance or call 1-844-780-8925 for more information about the program. This link also provides information for small businesses who might be eligible to receive funding from the province to help them recover from the flooding.

In addition, the group called Samaritan’s Purse has sent one of its disaster relief units to the area and is recruiting volunteers. The Disaster Relief Unit is a tractor trailer outfitted with essential disaster recovery equipment including generators, pumps, hand tools, and safety gear for volunteers. It also serves as a volunteer coordination centre and is equipped with a self-contained office, communications system, and other supplies.

Anyone who needs assistance or wants to volunteer to clean up flooded homes can call Samaritan’s Purse at 1-866-628-6565.
