The head of National Airlines hopes new weekly flights from Windsor to Orlando will also bring Floridians north.

The Orlando greater area is one of the most visited spots in the United States and we are here to make Windsor one of the most visited spots in Canada,” National Airlines president Ed Davidson said Thursday during a press conference at Windsor Airport.

Davidson said people sweltering in heat and humidity year-round prefer to head north on vacation, and that ease of flying and a low Canadian dollar mean Windsor could attract new visitors.

Whether Floridians catch the Windsor bug remains to be seen, of course, but airport officials say one thing is certain: Windsorites now have another option for travel to a warm destination.

National’s 157-foot, 184-seat Boeing 757 will be the largest passenger plane flying out of Windsor, when flights begin Dec. 17. Round-trip, non-stop flights to Orlando Sanford International Airport from Windsor will cost $296 to start.
