The $62-million multi-use recreation facility under construction in Lakeshore is within budget and expected to be completed by the middle of next year, according to an update provided to town councillors Tuesday.

Director of finance Cheryl Horrobin said total costs are expected to be within budget and the anticipated tax increase for the town’s debt on the facility is still at .75 per cent in 2016.

The project is being partially financed through government grants and community donations. Currently, the estimated debt for the facility will be $14,725,000 — $132,000 higher than budgeted, Horrobin said.

Phase 1 of the facility, named the Atlas Tube Centre, opened in September 2014. It includes three ice pads, a gymnasium, dance studio, indoor walking track, library, meeting rooms and a banquet hall. Phase 1 cost $42 million.

Phase 2 of the project is underway. It will include an aquatic centre with four lap lanes, a therapeutic pool and lazy river feature, an outdoor splash pad, to be named the Windsor Family Credit Union Community Pools and Splashpad, a multi-use pad, tennis courts and a five-kilometre multi-purpose trail, at a cost of $20 million.
