With an eye toward potential industrial development, two homes that sit on the far eastern side of Windsor International Airport are being expropriated by the City of Windsor.
The city has launched the legal process to take over the residential properties — in place for over century — which are located on the north side of County Rd. 42 and just west of Lauzon Parkway.
“Those (properties) are owned by private individuals now and we would like to consolidate these pieces into the bigger airport lands,” said city solicitor Shelby Askin Hager.
The two properties combined equate to 16,500 square metres, she said.
Coun. Hilary Payne, who represents the area that includes the airport, said Friday removing the homes now helps the city better package airport lands to potential investors, although was not aware of any immediate plans.
