International Economic Development Council (IEDC)

WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation received a Gold Excellence in Economic Development Award for its 2015 project in the category of Paid Advertisement Campaign for communities with populations of 200,000-500,000 from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).

 

fDi American Cities of the Futures Awards 2015/16 - Business Friendliness

The Windsor-Essex Region was honoured in the top two for the Business Friendliness Award announced by fDi American Cities of The Future Awards 2015/16. The fDi intelligence division of the Financial Times collected data using the specialist online tools fDi Markets and fDi Benchmark. Data was collected under the following five categories and based on size of the region: Economic Potential, Business Friendliness, Human Capital, Cost Effectiveness and Connectivity.

In the first ever fDi ranking of cities across the American continents, our region competed against some of the world’s most prestigious cities and placed in the Top 10 in a number of categories. This  prestigious ranking was in follow-up to the #1 North American Small City for Investment recognition achieved in 2007/2008.

In January 2011, Windsor and Essex County were recognized as one of the Top 7 Most Intelligent Communities in the world for our leadership in the areas of broadband connectivity, knowledge workforce, digital inclusion, innovation and marketing & advocacy.

In February 2011, the Conference Board of Canada reported that our region was forecast to be the fastest growing metropolitan economy in 2011 in Canada.

In September 2011, the Windsor-Essex region was named as one of the Top 5 Metros in which to invest by Site Selection Magazine. Quotes in the magazine include “If any city can lay claim to being a green tech capital, Windsor can.” It also highlighted the Manufacturer’s Capabilities Database that was developed in partnership with the University of Windsor’s Centre for Smart Community Innovation. WEEDC’s project activity resulted in our organization being highlighted as one of the Top 10 Economic Groups in Canada.

In December 2011, the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation received an honourable mention from EDCO, for business development advertising of the Grown Right Here - We Look for Local brand. The brand and website www.welookforlocal.ca have been heavily used by businesses across the region who have reported positive gains for their businesses and an increase in consumer demand for locally produced products.
