A private, all-boys’ Catholic elementary school is moving from Haliburton to take up residence in the shuttered St. Theresa Catholic School in Amherstburg.

St. Peter’s All Canadian Hockey School, which was founded in 1990, will open its doors in September emphasizing a mix of demanding academics and a wide choice of sports and outdoor-oriented activities.

This fall the school will offer Grade 1 through Grade 8. However, the plan is to add junior and senior kindergarten.

“It’s strictly demographics and a great opportunity offered by the Windsor-Essex Catholic Board (to buy St. Theresa),” said the school’s founder and headmaster Peter Thyrring of the move.

“We were looking at a few locations, but Amherstburg really did a great sales job.”

The school’s new home is currently being renovated and painted.
