Staycations Touted as Tourism Week Begins

Local and Ontario tourism officials kicked off tourism week Tuesday by encouraging people to discover attractions and staycations in their own backyard of Windsor-Essex.
“Our biggest market segment is visiting friends and relatives,” Gordon Orr, CEO of Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island, said Tuesday at the Ontario Travel Information Centre on Park Street.
“And when friends and relatives visit you this summer make sure that you, Windsorites and our friends in the county, are armed with the attractions and the offerings that we have in our own backyard and help be an ambassador for the region.”
Orr said helping the local tourism industry, worth about $471 million a year, is important since it’s a key economic driver in the region. The Windsor area welcomes 3.9 million visitors a year and tourism means about 18,000 jobs, he said. [Read More]
