Local wines to be sold at Windsor and Amherstburg farmers’ markets

Essex County wines will be sold for the first time later this month at farmers’ markets in Windsor and Amherstburg. And yes there will be samples so you can try it before you buy it.

“I’m 100 per cent certain it will increase,” Downtown Windsor Farmers’ Market general manager Steve Green said Monday of the number of market-goers this summer.

Green said many people can’t get to the county to buy wine at the wineries and it only makes sense to allow people to buy a bottle of wine when they are buying other locally produced food at the market.

“It brings the county right down into the middle of Windsor,” Green said.

The province announced in December it would allow Ontario wines to be sold at farmers’ markets in a pilot project this year. It’s a pairing wineries wanted since smaller wineries often have to depend on sales at their vineyards. [Read More...]
