Database will market local businesses to the world

Sandra Pupatello was urging all local manufacturing, IT and agribusiness companies Wednesday to jump on board the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation’s database as a way of growing business and jobs.
“This is exactly what buyers are looking for and that is why it is so different than a regular Google search,” the WEEDC’s CEO said at a news conference to announce the launch of Phase 2 of BuyWindsorEssex.com, which will now feature not just manufacturers but also companies in the region’s growing agribusiness and information and communication technology sectors. In the last year during Phase 1, 700 firms have set up free profiles in the database, but there are probably at least 1,500 more who could be taking advantage.
David Glover, president of Habour Technologies, attested to the value of having your company on a sophisticated database. His Windsor firm, which builds advanced manufacturing systems, has won new business as a result of being on other industry databases, said Glover, who is president of the Canadian Tooling and Machining Association.
