Canada's Minister of State for the Federal Economic Development Agency is talking about the importance of small and medium size businesses to the economy in Windsor-Essex.

Gary Goodyear took part in the "Business, Government Services and You" event at the Caboto Club this morning.

Goodyear says small businesses are the driving force behind the economy making up 98 per cent of all businesses in the country.

He says it is something that Leamington needs to think about in the wake of last week's announcement at Heinz.

Goodyear says Ottawa has been there for Leamington businesses in the past, and will continue to be there for the town now.

"We have been here, there are 8 projects that FedDev has funded in the Leamington area alone, over 75 in the Essex region, We have been here, we want to stay and keep helping," says Minister Goodyear.

The event at the Caboto Club was a free information, seminar and networking opportunity for local business owners.
