CenterLine, Farrow, A.V. Gauge among best-managed companies in Canada

A trio of local companies are basking in the glow of recognition by the 2017 Canada’s Best Managed Companies awards in recent days.

CenterLine (Windsor) Limited has become a 2017 Gold Standard winner as a previous winner of Canada’s Best Managed Companies in 2013.

Farrow has won the 2017 Canada’s Best Managed Companies Platinum Club designation.

A.V. Gauge and Fixture Inc. was also recognized as a new winner of the award.

Marc Levesque, director of corporate communications at CenterLine, said the award provides the company with a competitive advantage.

“From a recognition standpoint, a lot of our customers noticed that and I think it’s definitely helped us business-wise as far as validating some of our business practices and how we conduct ourselves,” said Levesque.

CenterLine wins the Gold Standard Award for three consecutive years of being on the list.

The national awards are sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC, Canadian Business, Smith School of Business and MacKay CEO Forums.

“It’s much more than just financial performance,” said Peter Brown, a partner at Deloitte and co-leader of the Canada’s Best Managed Companies program.

“The ingredients to success also include overall business performance and sustained growth. It takes dedication and commitment from the entire organization.”

CenterLine is a privately held corporation specializing in advanced automation processes and technologies that satisfy resistance welding metal forming and cold spray application needs.

CenterLine is established internationally with locations in the U.S., Mexico, Brazil, Germany, Romania, India and China.

Farrow has retained the Platinum Club designation for eight consecutive years.

“Being awarded this designation for eight years in a row is a monumental achievement for us,” said Rick Farrow, chairman and CEO of Farrow.

“Our employees’ commitment and dedication to delivering the highest levels of service and solutions are the foundation of who we are. And awards, including the recent “Supply Chain Vendor of the Year” from Staples, demonstrate our commitment to finding ways to help all of our customers to succeed and show the value of a century-old, family-owned company.”

Farrow is a customs broker company that offers a wide range of transportation services. Farrow has more than 1,250 employees at 43 offices across the country.

A.V. Gauge is considered a leading supplier of gauges and fixtures in North America with locations across Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, and the head office in Oldcastle.

The company began in 1985 with a 1,000-square-foot shop and just two employees. It has grown to more than 120,000 square feet in six facilities and to more than 250 employees across three countries.

The Canada’s Best Managed Companies program began in 1993 to identify the best-managed companies with revenues exceeding $15 million. The awards are granted at four different levels depending on the number of consecutive years they achieve best-managed status.

Also last week Circle 5 Tool and Mould Inc. took home the Supplier Excellence and Customer Satisfaction award at the Global Supplier Quality Awards in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Co-owner of the company Keith Lavergne said it was a surprise for his company to win an award usually meant for parts suppliers.

“We just make the moulds, not the finished product, so it was a bit of a surprise,” said Lavergne.

The company, which has been in existence for 30 years, employs about 60 people at its Silver Creek Industrial Drive location.
