Windsor-Essex County, Ontario - Tuesday, October 18, 2016 – October is recognized as Small Business Month and it’s a month dedicated to salute and support small businesses locally, provincially and nationally. The WindsorEssex Small Business Centre (SBC) recognizes Canada’s Small Business month with the goal to showcase SBC’s services in an effort to connect with current and prospective clients, as well as, highlight our local small businesses through specialized events and programming.
Stephen MacKenzie, CEO of the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation said, “According to statistics for SME’s (Stats Canada), there are over 20,000 businesses operating in Windsor-Essex that create jobs, drive the economy and gives our region its unique characteristics. The vast majority being micro and small businesses - 85% having fewer than 10 employees. Small business is truly at the heart of the economy in our Region.”
Sabrina DeMarco, Executive Director of the WindsorEssex Small Business Centre added, “Small Business month brings awareness and recognition to the important contribution that small business owners make and underscores the importance of ensuring that we continue to support our entrepreneurs and evolve a continued culture of entrepreneurship in the Windsor-Essex region. While Small Business Month is an opportunity to celebrate the passion and dedication of our local small business owners and entrepreneurs, the reality is every day is small business day at the Small Business Centre. Every day we work to support individuals to turn their dream of starting a business into a reality and every day we work to support our existing businesses to succeed and grow.”
Once again the SBC is hosting a signature tradeshow and networking event, Small Biz Expo 2016 on Thursday, October 20th, held at the Coboto Club in Windsor. The Small Biz Expo is an emporium of locally crafted food, unique goods, fashion accessories and homewares celebrating Windsor-Essex small businesses. The event will also feature local musical entertainment by Ron Leary and Soul Brother Stef. The objectives are to provide public exposure for local small businesses and, in particular, SBC member clients to sell their products, connect Windsor-Essex residents to small businesses with a one-stop event to shop local, bring awareness of the WindsorEssex Small Business Centre and WindsorEssex Economic Development as the go-to organizations for economic development and small business resources. There are 50 small business vendors participating this year and we anticipate over 400 people to attend based on last year’s overwhelming participation by the public.
Small Business week is where the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation and Small Business Centre (SBC) turn the spotlight on small business and encourage consumers to support our small businesses in the region because every day, these hard-working entrepreneurs and business owners make enormous contributions to our local economy by creating jobs and generating economic growth that keep our communities prosperous.
