Ontario Partners with Cimpress to Create Manufacturing Jobs in Windsor
Province Invests in Advanced Manufacturing Sector
July 20, 2016
Ontario's partnership with Cimpress (Vistaprint) has helped the company invest in new technology and grow its business, creating 50 new jobs.
Cimpress is a world leader in mass customization of a range of products that include business cards and t-shirts. With over $894,000 in support from the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund, Cimpress purchased an offset press and other equipment to support production of customized products for its Vistaprint brand as well as other brands in the company's portfolio. Vistaprint is a leading online provider of professional marketing products and services to micro business owners.
The Southwestern Ontario Development Fund is helping to create jobs and diversify the economy by encouraging regional businesses to pursue innovation and new markets. It was modelled on the proven Eastern Ontario Development Fund. Together these two funds are helping to create and retain more than 42,000 jobs in Ontario and attract more than $1.9 billion in investment to local economies.
The funds cover up to 15 per cent of eligible project costs, with the recipient company funding the remainder from its own resources. This leveraging of private sector investment provides enhanced value for taxpayers.
Investing in southwestern Ontario is part of the government's economic plan to build Ontario up and deliver on its number-one priority to grow the economy and create jobs. The four-part plan includes helping more people get and create the jobs of the future by expanding access to high-quality college and university education. The plan is making the largest infrastructure investment in hospitals, schools, roads, bridges and transit in Ontario's history and is investing in a low-carbon economy driven by innovative, high-growth, export-oriented businesses. The plan is also helping working Ontarians achieve a more secure retirement.
" We are pleased to support Cimpress through the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund. It is a truly global company that uses the internet, software and continual innovation to create customized products for everyone. Investment support for forward thinking companies like this helps the province shift from traditional manufacturing to more advanced manufacturing, which is creating jobs and economic growth."
- Brad Duguid
Minister of Economic Development and Growth
" We are excited to have partnered with the province of Ontario on this project. The new offset press is helping Cimpress reach new markets, including high-end clients and graphic designers. It is also helping us improve productivity and reduce product costs."
