Lakeside Produce creates 203 new jobs through plant expansion
Ontario government invests $1 million in produce plant's expansion
Lakeside Produce Inc. plans to add 203 new jobs at its vegetable processing plant in Leamington, once it completes a $7-million expansion project over the next few years.
The company expects to increase its production of vegetables with investments in new equipment and processing space.
When the expansion is complete, Lakeside Produce expects to have 515 employees. Increased production will help meet the growing demand for its products, such as bell peppers, cucumbers and specialty tomatoes.
The company received more than $1 million from the provincial government to help with the project. Minister of Agriculture, Jeff Leal, was at Lakeside Produce Tuesday to announce the funding.
"The modernized plant will help support the creation of new jobs, retain jobs and grow Leamington's economy to develop new opportunities for the local community and its members," he said in a news release.
