Canadian Export Reporting Requirements *Customs Alert* – Bulletin #2015-20

The Canada Border Services Agency (“CBSA”) recently published a notice reminding exporters from Canada that goods exported and transiting through the U.S. to Mexico or other international destinations must be reported to CBSA. The regulations also apply to goods that are cross docked in the U.S. before continuing their journey to destinations outside the U.S. Reporting and subsequent CBSA authorization is required PRIOR to exporting/shipping goods valued at more than CAN$2000.

CBSA is offering a 6 month grace period from December 1, 2015 to June 1, 2016 to companies who wish to voluntarily disclose exported shipments that transit through the U.S. but were not reported. No penalties will be issued during this period.
