Downtown Windsor BIA wins international Merit Award for retail recruitment campaign

[WINDSOR] – The Downtown Windsor BIA today announced that it is the recipient of a Downtown Merit Award for its Retail Recruitment Campaign. The award was presented to the DWBIA by the International Downtown Association, and the DWBIA was among six qualified entries in the category of Economic and Business Development.

Submitted projects and initiatives in this category come from those organizations working to further their city centers by completing the following:

  • Deliver successful programs and strategies that have recruited new businesses or improved retention efforts in downtown
  • Recruit new sectors of the economy to downtown
  • Created or enhance economic development efforts through creative financing, unique operating strategies, or public-private partnerships

"The DWBIA embarked on creating a workable retail attraction strategy that would provide information about the downtown market key to attracting retail investment," said DWBIA Chair Larry Horwitz. "Strengthening the downtown's current mix, and revealing the abundance of emerging opportunities in the city centre, is our primary objective."

“The Downtown Windsor BIA’s project received the IDA Merit Award for delivering excellence in downtown management,” said David Downey, IDA President and CEO. “Each year the IDA Awards Jury recognizes organizations that utilize best practices in our industry. The Downtown Windsor Retail Recruitment Campaign is a shining example of excellent downtown management delivering real value to the city.”

The Washington, D.C. based International Downtown Association (IDA) is a champion for vital and liveable urban centers and strives to inform, influence, and inspire downtown leaders and advocates. With 500 member organizations and thousands of professionals, IDA is a guiding force in creating healthy and dynamic centers that anchor the well-being of towns, cities, and regions.

The Downtown Windsor BIA is the advocacy and management organization representing the interests of property owners in downtown Windsor and is a member of the International Downtown Association.
