The amalgamation of Mount Royal Rice Mills Ltd. (MRRM), the corporate parent of Windsor’s Dainty Food plant, announced this week the completion of its merger with Marbour S.A.S. group.
MRRM shareholders approved the $11-million deal at a special meeting in Montreal Tuesday.
“We look forward to working with MRRM to grow and develop our business across North America, combining our advantages of scale and investment capability with MRRM’s expertise and market knowledge,” said Jean Bourdillon, Marbour’s president.
Company officials said there will be no changes at the Windsor plant, which is seen as the key to the French-based firm’s expansion plans into the North American rice market.
The Dainty Foods plant employs 75 people and processed 114 million pounds of rice last year.
Marbour has 700 employees at 14 plants in Europe, the Caribbean and Mauritius Islands. Marbour is the third-largest rice producer and distributor in Europe.
