Ontario Recognizing Excellence in Retailing Local Food
Celebrating the Promotion of Local Food
March 27, 2015 - Minister Jeff Leal presented the 2015 Foodland Ontario Retailer Awards to sixty-nine grocery retailers, from across the province, for their creative in-store displays, making it easier for consumers to recognize and buy the good things that grow in Ontario.
The annual Foodland Ontario Retailer Awards is the produce industry's premier competition for excellence in display and promotion, and support of Ontario foods.
The recipients for the 2015 Foodland Ontario Award of Excellence are:
- Andrew & Emily's No Frills, Picton
- Food Basics #697, Sudbury
- Food Basics #932, St. Catharines
- Metro #147, Windsor - 6740 Wyandotte St. East - near St. Rose
- Metro #453, Bowmanville
- Stewart's Town & Country Market, Mildmay
Recognizing local food initiatives is part of the government's economic plan for Ontario. The four part plan is building Ontario up by investing in people's talents and skills, building new public infrastructure like roads and transit, creating a dynamic, supportive environment where business thrives, and building a secure saving plan so everyone can afford to retire.

- Since 1977, Foodland Ontario has helped consumers to learn about the great taste, nutritional and economic benefits of buying Ontario food.
- A recent survey revealed that 9 out of 10 Ontario consumers recognize the Foodland Ontario logo.
- Studies have shown that 76 per cent of food purchase decisions are made in-store.
- The 2015 Foodland Ontario Retailer Awards received a record number of 5,699 photos from retailers and 3,578 application entries.
- Ontario farmers produce more than 200 commodities, such as Ontario apples, potatoes, greenhouse tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers.
