2016 Emerging Technologies in Automation
"The Internet of Things"
On November 29, 2016 the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation presented the inaugural Emerging Technologies in Automation Conference and Trade Show - held at Caesars Windsor. The conference and trade show was held in partnership with NRC-IRAP, WEtech Alliance and the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce. Over 300 delegates attended with representatives from local companies in the advanced manufacturing sector as well as, delegates from outside the region.
In Windsor-Essex there are over 300 companies across many sectors involved in the engineering, designing and production of cutting-edge industrial manufacturing systems and many of these companies presented and exhibited in the trade show. The Emerging Technologies in Automation Conference and Trade Show provided these companies an opportunity to showcase their latest innovative developments that is changing the face of manufacturing around the world.
During the conference the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation launched the Connect. Innovate. Develop. web application that is a companion piece to the buywindsoressex.com database. This new web application keeps Windsor-Essex companies at the forefront of innovation by enabling companies to present their latest developments to a global business ecosystem across all sectors and help them to grow by being a provider of innovative business solutions.
In 2016, the keynote speaker Ian Khan, Technology Futurist, TEDx Speaker and Author spoke about Unlocking the Internet of Things (IoT) to the Maximum Potential. Ian’s goal was to simplify the complexity of technology into what all of us could understand and relate to. Ian related that by 2020 over 50 Billion devices are predicted to be connected to the internet, performing various tasks, collecting critical information and helping serve key needs that provide value to us in many ways. This includes areas such as manufacturing, automation, agriculture, healthcare and more, making the current times one of the most exciting times for innovation and transformation.
The positive response received about the 2016 conference and recognizing that in order to keep up with the rapid pace at which innovative technology is developing and to support our region as an international hub for automation, this conference and trade show has become a signature event for the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation that will continue into 2017 with a focus on – Autonomous Vehicles.
